 Also known as the brown rat or sewer rat, Norway rats are larger, stocky rodents with a blunt nose. They typically burrow in the ground and are often found near buildings and in basements.

 Similar in appearance to the meadow vole, montane voles are found in higher elevation areas but can also be present in valleys and grasslands. They create runways in vegetation and are also known for damaging crops and plants. 

 Townsend’s moles are the largest mole species in North America. They have a cylindrical body, velvety fur, and large front paws adapted for digging. These moles create extensive tunnel networks underground, which can cause unsightly mounds and damage to lawns and gardens. 

 While not a mole, the Northern pocket gopher is often confused with them due to its burrowing habits. These gophers are small, with fur-lined cheek pouches, and create extensive burrow systems that can cause damage to lawns, gardens, and crops.
